Holiday Books, Music and Movies
This season you can craft, cook and decorate your way through the holidays with the library’s collection of Hanukkah and Christmas books available to check out. There are new and classic Adult and Children’s holiday fiction books and movies for you and your family to enjoy. Also, you can choose from a selection of holiday music with some great bands and singers such as Harry Connick Jr., Celine Dion, David Archuletta, Jackie Evancho, and Neil Diamond. Mystery Book Group
The Mystery Book Group will meet Friday, November 30 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. New members are always welcome.
Crafternoon is Back! Wild & Woolly Wednesdays, November-March
Knitters, crocheters, embroiderers, felters, and more, Join us at the Manchester by the Sea Public Library Hearthside for knitting, chatting, and good company by the fireplace every Wednesday, 3-4 PM. We have experienced crafters, new crafters, and all ages and stages are welcome. Bring a project or just get started with our yarn and needles!
Friends of the Library Monthly Weekend Book Sales
The Friends of the Manchester Public library will be continuing their monthly book sales on Saturday, December 1 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. On one weekend every month the book sale carts will be filled, arranged, and staffed by a Friend of the Manchester Public Library. This is a great opportunity to check out some unique and interesting books that support and supplement library programs and services. The upcoming sales will be held on January 13, February 17, March 17 and April 14.
Nonfiction Book Group
The next meeting of the Nonfiction Book Group is Monday, December 3 at 4 p.m.. The group will discuss The Food Explorer: The True Adventures of the Globe-Trotting Botanist Who Transformed What America Eats by Daniel Stone. New members are always welcome.
Hearthside Book Group
The Hearthside Book Group will meet next on Tuesday, December 4 at 4 p.m. The group will discuss Why We Read What We Read: A Delightfully Opinioned Journey Through Contemporary Bestsellers by Lisa Adams. New members are always welcome.
Christmas Holiday Hours
The Library will close on Monday, December 24 at 1 pmm. The Library will be closed on Tuesday, December 25 for the Christmas holiday. The library will reopen on Wednesday, December 26 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Nappy’s Shadow Puppets Presents: Santa Got Fired!
As part of Christmas-by-the-Sea festivities, we invite families to join Jim ‘Nappy’ Napolitano for this humorous holiday tale. Shadow puppetry is one of the oldest and most wondrous of all puppets and is sure to detail kids of all ages!
The show will be held at the 1st Parish Chapel, located behind Santander Bank on 1 Chapel Lane. Everyone is invited back to the Library for holiday treats by the fireplace compliments of the Friends of the Library. This program is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Hooper Fund.
1/2 Day School Special: Let’s Go! Animals Tracks in the Snow!
Wednesday, December 5 at 1:30 p.m.
Join author Diane Polley and illustrator Marion Hall for a delightful sharing of their new picture book: Let’s Go! Animal Tracks in the Snow!
Marion Hall will present a watercolor workshop for children ages 6+ after the reading. While all are welcome to attend the story sharing, space is limited for the workshop and registration is required. Please sign-up early. You won’t want to miss this unique opportunity!
Following the reading personalized copies will be available for purchase and make a lovely holiday gift.

Art Supply Drive – Benefiting Boston Kids in Need!
Will you be out holiday shopping anytime soon? Add another student artist to your shopping list. TAB (the Teen Advisory Board for the Manchester Public Library) has adopted a special needs, middle school classroom in a Boston Public School. These kids are artists! But, due to their school being underfunded, they lack art supplies. From November 26- December 14, bring in new and non-toxic art supplies. There will be a collection box outside the high school office or in the Manchester Public Library lobby. The most needed supplies are:
Drawing Paper Acrylic paints and brushes
Cardstock paper Tapes – painters blue and Duck
Blank journals Model Magic clay
Watercolor paint sets Fun stuff – pipe cleaners, stickers, feathers, glitter…
Remember, keep art your heart, this season!
GINGERBREAD HOUSE DECORATING – Wednesday, December 5 at 12:30 p.m.
Candy canes, gumdrops, licorice, marshmallows and more… Join us and get into the holiday spirit as you decorate your very own gingerbread house!
Grades 6-12 welcome. The elves need lots of time to shop. Please register by December 3 by calling 978-526-7711. We will be decorating our houses at the Manchester Community Center.
