Online Library Subscription to Consumer Reports

The library is excited to announce that a digital subscription to the magazine Consumer Reports has been added to our online collection that you can now access from the comfort of your own home or at the Manchester library.

As a nonprofit organization, Consumer Reports provides an easy to use guide for unbiased ratings on thousands of products and services used in everyday life. Included in the subscription are helpful tools for cars and televisions, satisfaction scores from nearly a million consumers, and expert tips on topics including health, food, tech and money. To access Consumer Reports online, go to the library’s website at www.manchesterpl.org and click on Virtual Library. When accessing Consumer Reports from home you will need your library card’s barcode numbers. If you do not have access to your library card, please see a librarian at the Manchester Library.

This year, the Teen Advisory Board has “adopted” a middle school, special education classroom in Boston. The school is quite underfunded compared to our own system.

During the holidays, TAB ran an art supply drive for these students and was overwhelmed by our patron’s generosity. The artwork we received back from our Boston Buddies was so creative and beautiful. They obviously enjoyed playing with the paints, markers, clay…

Once again, TAB is asking for your help! With their teacher’s help, we have created an Amazon Wish List with three titles for each of the nine students. TAB is hoping to get books into these kid’s hands, books they can take home, read over the summer, and keep. Please follow the link and pick out a summer reading book for one of these kids.

May Movie Night

On Friday, May 17 at 5:30 p.m., the library will be showing the dramatized story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s journey for equal rights between men and women. After graduating law school, Ruth initially struggles to find a job because of her gender. She eventually becomes involved in a gender bias court case that spearheads her historic career to become the second female Supreme Court Justice. This movie stars Felicity Jones, Armie Hammer, and Justine Theroux. This movie is rated PG-13 and anyone under 13 must have a parent or guardian fill out a permission slip available at the Library’s circulation desk.

Seeds to Plant, at your library!

Many seeds, donated, shared, etc, are now at the Seed Saver display across from the front desk of the Manchester Public Library. Please help yourself to a portion of a packet or a full one if you need all. There are empty packets you can label if just taking the number of seeds you need.

What a great way to try growing a new vegetable or flower or share when you realize you don’t need 100 of the same seeds? This small wooden seed saver display is out during various parts of the growing season so is always changing depending on recent donations. Thanks for keeping this great community resource going.
